Landing late in Málaga: choose the first night before the flight
A late flight can work well for a short break, but only if the transfer and hotel arrival still work after a delay. Start with the first night, then compare the flight price.

Start with the actual arrival chain
Your landing time is not your hotel arrival time. Add time to leave the aircraft, pass any border checks, collect bags, reach the stop or pickup point, wait and travel to the door. Add a delay margin you are comfortable paying for. A cheap flight that needs a private transfer may cost more for the whole group.
City or coast: follow the connection
Aena lists the C1 railway between Málaga Centro Alameda and Fuengirola with an airport stop. Málaga city and resorts on that corridor deserve consideration when the timetable fits. Aena also lists airport buses to Marbella, Estepona and Nerja. These are different services, so a rail timetable cannot establish when the last bus leaves.
Choose the hotel by its exact address and the last leg from the stop. A station name can cover an area with hills, steps or a long walk. Check whether the route is practical with luggage and whether an accessible route or taxi is needed.
When one airport-area night makes sense
An airport-area hotel is worth comparing if your destination transfer no longer runs or you will collect a car in the morning. Check the actual route from the terminal: nearby does not prove walkable, and a shuttle must be confirmed for your arrival time. Count the second transfer and time spent changing hotels the next day.
Confirm the night you are paying for
If your flight lands after midnight, explain both the date and the time to the property before booking. A room normally sold for the following afternoon may not cover your overnight arrival. Ask about staffed reception, self-check-in, a late-arrival fee and what happens if the flight is delayed. Save the instructions offline.
Check the return before committing
Work backwards from the airline’s required airport arrival time. An early return can make the final night near the airport useful even when your outbound transfer was easy. Use the Tripuego planner to compare both flight options with accommodation and ground transport included. Do not treat a route listed on an airport page as a guarantee that it operates at your chosen hour.
